VOWS

Heather's vows

(Kenny: do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?)

I do. Lawrence, today I take your name and give you my headship.

As your wife, I will love you more each day, never ceasing. I give to you my support both publically and privately and take as my role model the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31. I joyfully submit to you having confidence in your love for me and your love for our God. I will complete your life as Eve did Adam's and you will never feel lonely again.

As your best friend I will laugh with you. I will cry with you. I will listen to you. I will learn you. I will always be there for you. I will help you find the smiles to be had in everyday life and when trials come I'll be right by your side. I believe in you and will be your biggest cheerleader and partner in all that you do. I gladly join myself to your circle of friends.

As your beloved I promise to give freely of myself to you and you alone with all of my mind, heart and body. I give a gift to you no other has known.

As the keeper of our home I will be mindful that as you are head of our home I am its heart. I will make our home a safe harbor for you; a place of comfort and warmth for you, our family and friends and saints and strangers. I will keep a clean house so that you will feel proud to invite others over for meals and bible studies. I will remember that filling our home with love is more important than filling it with things.

As the mother of our children I will love them. I will teach them by deed and by word about the Lord and how to please and praise Him. I will teach them respect for you as their father and for other adults as their elders. I will present with you a united front so that our children will have a stable environment to grow, learn and love in. My love for you will be greatest and my first desire will be strengthening our relationship for the days when we return to where we are now - just the two of us.

As your fellow laborer in the Lord I will love God more than you and in doing so please you both. I will be attentive to your spiritual edification and diligent to grow with you in the work of God. I will be Priscilla to your Aquila by working hard with you in teaching others. And in the quiet times I will pray with you believing that God hears and cares for us as His children. I will remember that our relationship as brother and sister strengthens our bond as husband and wife.

Today I take you as my husband and before God and all here proclaim, "This is my beloved and this is my friend."

Lawrence's vows

I do. Heather, today I take you as my wife, and give you my name.

As your husband I will love you more each day without ceasing. I take as my role model the love Jesus has for His bride, the church. I will honor you both publically and privately. I joyfully accept the headship you give me having confidence in your love for me and for our God. I will protect you, and provide for you fulfilling you, your needs and your desires.

As your best friend I will be there when you want to laugh, need to cry or speak your mind. I will be your partner and support; you will not face any trial alone. I have chosen you for who you are, and I will seek to grow with you by understanding your goals and your needs. Your friends will by my friends.

As your beloved I will give freely of myself to you and you alone with all of my mind, heart and body. I give a gift to you no other has known.

As the leader of our home I will guide you by serving you, and doing what needs to be done. Your work will be my work so we will have more useful time together. I will always listen to your wisdom, your point of view and your interest. I will make decisions soberly according to the guidance of God's word for the spiritual , physical, mental and emotional well-being of our family. I will help you make a home where family, friends, saints and strangers will feel welcomed.

As the father of our children I will love them and supply their needs. I will raise them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and not provoke them to anger. I will stand united with you in establishing and executing discipline with love. My love for you will be greatest, and my first desire will be strengthening our relationship for the days we hope to have after our children leave home.

As your fellow laborer in the Lord I will love God more than you and in doing so please you both. I will be continuously attentive to your spiritual edification and diligent to grow with you in the word of God. I will be your partner in teaching others according to the example of Aquila and Priscilla. I will join with you in supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks to God making our requests more complete before God and increasing my understanding of the spirit that is you.

Today I take you as my wife and before God and all here proclaim, "This is my beloved and this is my friend."
